STICHTING IKE COHEN CHARITY

Beneficiaries of Ike's past events

The Stichting Ike Cohen Charity (hereafter “Foundation”) was founded on December 19, 2001 by Mr. Izaak Cohen to create an official vehicle to receive the proceeds of the annual Manchebo Charity Fairs and other donations.

The Manchebo Charity fairs have historically been held in commemoration of Mr. Cohen’s birthday who in 2006 will celebrate 95 years. He very generously pays 100% of the expenses associated with the event including all food, beverages and entertainment. He invites the entire community to celebrate his birthday with him and asks for a minimum donation of Afls 125 (US$70). 100% of all ticket donations are given to his charity foundation. To date, the foundation has received more than Afls 500,000 from the Manchebo Beach events.

Additionally other donations are also received with the largest contribution being made each year by Aruba businessman and friend Mr. Rene Kan. Since Mr. Cohen’s 90th birthday, Mr. Kan annually contributes AWG 1.000 for each of Mr. Cohen’s years. Until now the Foundation has received an amount of AWG 460.000 from the generosity of Mr. Kan.

The board of the Foundation consists of the following persons:

Mr. Ike Cohen President
Mr. Bill Carson Treasurer
Mr. Ton Kolman Secretary
Mr. René Kan Member
Mrs. Diet Booi Member

The goal of the Foundation is to make donations to charitable institutions, selected social organizations and people in need. Since 2003, the Foundation is working closely together with CEDE Aruba. CEDE Aruba is a government foundation funded by contributions by the Aruban and Dutch governments. They function to provide funding for special projects and identify those institutions who have projects which they wish to finance, provided that the beneficiary institution is able to come up with its own investment of 25 to 30% of the project value. This presents a major challenge for most institutions. The Ike Cohen Foundation is willing to help these institutions by providing the initial investment required as long as their project has been approved by CEDE Aruba. The Ike Cohen Foundation is very proud that with their initial contribution of AWG 125.000 for the FAVI (Foundation for the Visually Impaired). The contribution allowed FAVI to meet the requirements of CEDE Aruba. They were able to construct a complete new facility which required a total investment of more then AWG 1.500.000.

Additionally many other projects have been supported over the years via similar constructions and contributions. Recipients have included Meals on Wheels, the Imeldahof Children’s Home, The Youth Center Washington, the Foundation for Women in Difficulty, The Animal Rights Foundation and the Animal Shelter, the purchase of several hundred special beds and wheelchairs for the Mariestella Old Age Home as well as the purchase of transport vehicles for Casa Cuna Children’s Home and SABA, a foundation for the elderly. Donations have also been made to the various service clubs in Aruba (Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, The Quota Club and the Womens Club) for their outstanding work and projects. In total, since 1996 nearly Afls 1 million has been raised by the foundation due to the ongoing outstanding generosity of the Aruban community.

On June 2, 2006 Mr. Cohen will turn 95 and on June 3, 2006 the 10th annual Manchebo Charity Fair will be held. The proceeds of this event will be destined for the White Yellow Cross. The White Yellow Cross is one of Aruba’s most valuable organizations serving the Aruba community. They help with new families by assisting with in-home care for new born babies as well as for those families caring for loved ones in the home with equipment for assisted living. The new storage facility will allow the White Yellow Cross to borrow the required equipment (wheelchairs, hospital beds, personal care equipment to make the life at home more comfortable for those in need.
